The latest unicorn to hit Australia is the Zanzibar zamioculcas Zenzii or Zanzibar Zenzii for short. Florafolia is beyond excited to be the only online stockist of these in Australia.
So what’s the plant like? It has all the fabulousness of a regular Zanzibar gem - low care, not much water and low light requirements but has darker, glossier more compact growth. It is a striking plant and one for the serious collector, someone who appreciates the new and different or someone who just appreciates a stylish statement plant. Zenzii is much shorter than the normal Zanzibar Gem growing only 50% of the height. The leaves are a bit shorter and rounder and much closer together as you can see in the photo.
How To Care For Your Zenzii
The Zenzi ZZ Plant is a relatively new kid on the block. It is a dwarf cultivar of the ZZ Plant with a thick, compact habit and very dark green leaves. This fascinating, uber-modern houseplant is absolutely perfect as a desk plant, guaranteed to bring a smile to your face.
Zenzi is much shorter than the normal Zanzibar Gem growing only 50% of the height. Zenzi will become one of the hottest plants for 2021 due to its compact shape and thick glossy leaves that get darker in low light
They are found in warmer climates so will not do well outdoors in cold climates during winter but indoors they will do exceptionally well if kept dry over the colder months. They can be water well in warm months but should be allowed to dry out between waterings, in darker areas this may be monthly or less. Probably the only way to kill one is significantly over-watering them.
The Mini Me
Whilst the ZZ Gem on the right is an older, more established plant, it is possible to see some of the differences between Zenzii and ZZ Gem.
Both have a thick stem but on the Zenzii the leaf nodes are much closer together which results in a more compact plant. The leaves are shorter and rounder compared to a ZZ Gem, and are a darker green.
